Open, communicative, creative: at the new European headquarters of the Lapp Group (U.I. Lapp GmbH) in Stuttgart-Vaihingen the open-space concept is lived right into the detail. This central theme influences the entire architectural concept: the transparent exterior of the administration building is characterized by large window areas; the two L-shaped wings of the building are connected by a 16-metre-high glass atrium.
Many spectacular architecture projects can only be realized with exceptionally innovative solutions – as for Lüneburg’s Central Building of the Leuphana University from star architect Daniel Libeskind. The futuristic design, with its many asymmetrical shapes, required a solar control solution that would perfectly enhance the overall artistic impression.
Our dimmable solar control glass provides shading without stopping all the daylight from entering the building. And with solar factors of below 10 percent it also effectively protects against overheating in summer. It is equally suitable for new buildings and for (energetic) building renovation. In 2015 the time had come for the research institute “IMBA” in Vienna to exchange the single-pane glazing of the south façade for the dimmable glass ECONTROL (insulation glass type 45/8).
With its new AutomationCenter, FESTO AG & Co. KG (Esslingen) has entered into a new era. The highly modern sixteen-floor building offers 400 members of staff space for innovation and the development of new customer solutions. The high-rise building with its rhombic cross-section is an architectural highlight that also has impressive “inner qualities”.
A glacier in the middle of a city? That’s something you can only find in Sweden – in Gothenburg. Here, in 2014, “Glasiären”, a six-storey, blue-shimmering office building was built in the trendy quarter of Kvilbäcka/Kvillebäcken. So that this “glacier” – which is exactly what Glasiären means – does not get too warm, the owners decided to use dimmable solar control glass from EControl-Glas (Plauen, Germany).
Open and full of light, with a clear view to the outside. These were the requirements for the new cafeteria at the German-Spanish Primary School in Hamburg. It also had to be protected from the heat of the sun’s rays and the cold of the winter, and be resistant to errant footballs. For these reasons, architects Knaack & Prell rejected exterior blinds right from the start.
170 square metres of space for conferences and private functions under an arched roof of dimmable glass without any sun blinds – can it work? The proof that it can is provided by the former castle at Störmede (part of the town of Geseke, North Rhine-Westphalia). The turbulent history of the building goes all the way back to the 13th century but until recently only the weathered remains of its thick walls provided any clues to its ancestry.
The research campus Berlin-Buch is one of the most important science and technology sites in Berlin-Brandenburg. The area measuring about 320,000 square meters is now the home of more than 50 research facilities, hospitals and biotech companies. This is also where the internationally operating “Eckert & Ziegler AG” is located.
At glasstec 2012 in Düsseldorf, Germany, EControl-Glas (Plauen, Germany) introduced with ECONTROL 55/12 their new generation of switchable solar control glazing. The major novelty: Daylight transmission when switching the electrochromic glass to a light shade has been noticeably increased.
